(1) Summary: Beiji Dian of Madou is also known as Shangdi Miao (Temple of the High Emperor). The Temple was first constructed in the 15th Year of Emperor Yongli of the Ming Dynasty (1661) and is dedicated to the worship of Syuantian Shangdi (High Emperor of the Mysterious Heavens). The Temple also preserved an ancient stele carved during the 16th Year of Emperor Cianlong of the Cing Dynasty with the words Jyuan Jhih Zai Fang Bei (a stele commemorating a house of worship). The stele recorded the reconstruction of the Temple in the 2nd Year of Emperor Cianlong, as well as donations made in the 15th Year to acquire land to support Temple expenses. The Temple underwent several renovations. Valuable artifacts include 2 large steles, ancient fig-urines of the deities, and colored frescoes created by the re-nowned master Cai Cao-ru. However, due to the age of the Tem-ple as well as the difficulties in preserving cultural relics, some of the cultural assets have deteriorated as a result.
